Pounamu Manawa (Heart) Necklace – Kōwhaiwhai Design

This Pounamu Manawa (Heart) necklace is hand‑carved from genuine Pounamu (Greenstone) sourced from Te Waipounamu (South Island) of Aotearoa. Shaped into the Manawa (Heart) form, it symbolises Aroha (Love), Kotahitanga (Unity), and the deep connections we carry throughout life.

Measuring 60 mm in length by 60 mm in width, this Taonga features a finely detailed Kōwhaiwhai (Traditional Curvilinear Pattern) laser‑etched into the stone, adding movement, whakapapa, and visual storytelling to its form.

Meaning of Kōwhaiwhai (Traditional Curvilinear Pattern)

Kōwhaiwhai (Curvilinear Pattern) — (symbol of genealogy, growth, and the flow of life)

Represents Whakapapa (Lineage) and the continuous unfolding of generations

Symbolises Harmony, Balance, and the interwoven relationships that shape our identity

Often seen in Wharenui (Meeting Houses), where it honours ancestors and the stories carried forward

Karakia (Blessing) by Dot Arts

Your Taonga has been blessed by the carver of Dot Arts, ensuring it carries Wairua (Spirit), Aroha (Love), and Tiaki (Protection) for its wearer.

Why Karakia Is Performed

A Karakia (Incantation/Prayer) is offered to honour the Mauri (Life Force) of the stone, acknowledge its origins from the Whenua (Land), and set intentions of Kaha (Strength), Aroha (Love), and Rangatira (Guidance) for the person who will wear it.

Through Karakia, the Taonga becomes more than jewellery — it becomes a companion of grounding, connection, and spiritual support.
